Amazon Web Services (AWS) has reinforced its long-term investment pipeline in African digital infrastructure, reiterating its plan to deploy $2.3 billion across the continent by 2029.

The cloud computing titan has rolled out AWS Local Zones in Lagos, Nigeria, and Nairobi, Kenya. These edge deployments deliver ultra-low single-digit millisecond latency for real-time fintech payments, automated algorithmic lending, and media streaming across East and West Africa.

Over 80% of Africa's prominent fintech unicorns—including Flutterwave, Paystack, and Chipper Cash—rely heavily on AWS architecture. The expansion of local compute zones allows these institutions to satisfy strict national central bank data residency mandates while retaining access to advanced AWS AI and machine learning managed services.

Furthermore, AWS announced the graduation of its second cohort of the AWS African GenAI Accelerator, awarding equity-free funding and technical compute credits to 25 early-stage startups addressing clean energy distribution and cross-border remittance bottlenecks.
