Intel Corporation has unveiled dual semiconductor design centers in Egypt and Morocco, committing $350 million to develop local talent in electronic design automation (EDA) and open-standard RISC-V processor architectures.

The initiative aims to position North Africa as an indispensable design corridor for global hardware supply chains, capitalizing on the region high density of mathematics and electrical engineering graduates.

By developing domestic microchip competencies, African nations aim to move from raw silica and critical mineral exporters to architects of sovereign silicon for telecommunications and edge AI devices.
